Then, i moved to a server that supported PHP3. 'Whats that?' I asked the server admin. He told me, and i decided that it sounded ok, thinking that it would never be as good as perl. I looked at the php website, and my jaw dropped to the floor. I was stunned, it could do everything. All the functions needed to do most tasks are included, as well as perfect MySQL functionality. I was about to go buy a book on perl. Instead, i taught myself PHP3. Now i code PHP3 applications for my clients, and have recently completed extensive modifications to many scripts, and created my own PHP3 scripts. I fell that I have alot more power with PHP3, especially when it comes to databases. Perl still has a place, for example file management. But for everything else, i use PHP3. I don't have a single perl script on my site any more, all PHP3. And an increasing amount of client sites that i make are in PHP3. Good stuff guys! Every possible functions you could need are available which makes it the premium environment to develop server-side processing for small to medium web apps. Stick to Java servlets and Zope for anything big.
The community support is also very impressive as you can gather when you visit the homepage.
Definitely something that will get and keep a large part of the web development market. | |
